Use this form to request the return of original documents submitted to establish eligibility for an immigration benefit.

Edition Date

10/21/19. Starting 1/20/20, we will only accept the 10/21/19 edition. Until then, you can use the 09/19/16 edition. You can find the edition date at the bottom of the page on the form and instructions.

Where to File

If your case is pending, submit your Form G-884 to the USCIS district, suboffice, or service center that is currently processing your case. If we have issued a final decision, submit your Form G-884 to the USCIS office or service center that performed the last action on your case.

You can check your case status online and locate a USCIS office.

Don’t forget to sign your form! We will reject any unsigned form.

Your signature on the form must be notarized if you are not appearing in person before a USCIS official. Do not sign your G-884 until you appear before the notary.

Do not send original documents unless specifically requested in the form instructions or applicable regulations.

If you submit any documents (copies or original documents, if requested) in a foreign language, you must include a full English translation along with a certification from the translator verifying that the translation is complete and accurate, and that they are competent to translate from the foreign language to English.

If you are requesting original documents from your Alien File (A-File) or Receipt File, did you provide the following?

  • Copies of two forms of identification
    • Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card
    • Driver’s license
    • State-issued identification document 
    • Employment authorization document 
    • Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship 
    • U.S. or foreign passport

If you are requesting original documents from someone else’s A-File or Receipt File, did you submit the following?

  • Copies of two forms of identification
    • Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card
    • Driver’s license
    • State-issued identification document
    • Employment authorization document
    • Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship
    • U.S. or foreign passport
  • Proof of the relationship between you and the other person. In cases where they are either deceased or incapacitated, you must provide evidence of a power of attorney, or that you are the executor of their estate.
